This easy burrata toast is a great upscale appetizer for dinner parties and date nights! It’s fresh, flavorful, and comes together in under 10 minutes – no cooking required.

There’s nothing like fresh, flavorful ingredients prepared in a simple and straightforward dish like this decadent burrata toast. Creamy burrata cheese, crunchy yet fluffy bread, ripe tomatoes, and fresh basil combine in the best way possible – so much flavor in every bite!
This recipe is especially delicious in peak tomato season. We love serving it as an appetizer before pasta or as a small plate with other tapas-style dishes. It’s just about perfect for 2 to 3 people, but you can also scale it easily for a larger crowd (did someone say summer dinner party?).
The best part is, there’s no cooking required! Just toast the bread, assemble, and serve.
What This Recipe Entails
Our burrata toast requires basically zero cooking, so you can this ready in less than 10 minutes.
- Prep time: 5 minutes
- Cook time: 3 minutes (just enough time to toast the bread)
What Is Burrata Toast?
Burrata toast is just what it sounds like: creamy burrata cheese on toasted bread! Our favorite way to serve burrata toast is with a juicy slice of tomato, fresh basil, and balsamic. This way, all we need to do is toast the bread and then assemble – no cooking required.

Ingredients
High quality ingredients are the key to making the best possible burrata toast. From fresh, fluffy bread to high quality burrata cheese, you’ll taste every ingredient in every bite.
- Burrata – This is the star of the show, so choose a high-quality burrata (you’ll taste the difference). We absolutely love the burrata from Murray’s Cheese (you can order it online here), but any locally produced or gourmet burrata you can find at the store is also a great option.
- Tomato and basil – Use the freshest vine tomatoes and basil you can find. This recipe is especially delicious in the summer when you can find these ingredients in season. If you can, use tomatoes and basil from the farmer’s market or your own garden!
- Fresh Italian bread – Choose a freshly baked loaf of bread that has a crusty outside and soft, fluffy inside. Ciabatta works great for this!
- Extra virgin olive oil – Selecting a good olive oil is like picking out a good wine. There’s a lot of variation in flavor from brand to brand, and it’s easy to end up with flavors that are too acidic or bitter if you don’t choose wisely. We always recommend buying local if you can!
- Balsamic vinegar or glaze – You can either use balsamic vinegar or a thick balsamic glaze on these. They both taste great, so use whatever you already have on hand. The glaze will yield a stronger, sweeter balsamic flavor.
How To Make Burrata Toast Appetizers
- Slice the bread – We like to make small, square-shaped toasts so that we can serve this as a shareable appetizer. To do this, we cut the loaf in half horizontally before making roughly 2-inch slices, so that each piece of bread has crust on the bottom.
- Toast the bread – Place the bread on a baking sheet and broil it until it’s lightly toasted on top, but still fluffy in the middle.
- Assemble – Finally, drizzle each toast with EVOO and balsamic, then top with a slice of tomato, a generous dollop of burrata, and fresh basil. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Serving Suggestions
- Dinner party – Burrata toast is a great opening appetizer to get your dinner party started. Plus it’s easy and quick to help cut down on prep time.
- Tapas night – We love including burrata toast as part of our tapas party spreads. It’s the perfect complement to saltier tapas like chorizo or patatas bravas since it’s so fresh and light. But we also love including it in a tomato-themed appetizer spread with Spanish baked goat cheese and tomato or roasted tomato and garlic bruschetta.
- Date night – If you’re looking to elevate a date night in, perhaps for an anniversary, birthday, or other celebratory occasion, pair burrata toast with your favorite pasta dinner and a cocktail! Our favorite pairing is goat cheese and tomato gnocchi with a rosemary vodka lemonade.
