Add crushed tomatoes, sea salt, and basil. Stir to combine and cook at a low simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and use on pizza, or store in the fridge or freezer for later use.
Notes
Tomatoes: Crushed tomatoes yields a slightly chunky sauce, while tomato puree yields a smoother sauce. You can use either for this recipe.Lazy shortcut: If you’re feeling lazy, you can even just combine all the ingredients in a bowl and use it on a pizza right away. It won’t be quite as flavorful, but it does the trick!Recipe variations: You can easily customize the seasonings in your sauce to complement any type of pizza! Use this recipe as a starting point and then add in flavors from there. Check out our blog post above for suggestions.Storing pizza sauce: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Or, freeze for up to 3 months. We like to freeze half-cup portions in our Souper Cubes so that we can easily get out just the right amount whenever we make pizza.Using pizza sauce from the fridge: You don't need to reheat the sauce before it goes on the pizza - it'll get plenty warm as the pizza bakes. But if you want to use some as a dip for crust, breadsticks, or mozzarella sticks (which we highly recommend!) you'll want to warm it in the microwave first.Using pizza sauce from the freezer: Defrost in the fridge overnight, or defrost in the microwave before using on pizza. No need to warm it up - just make sure there aren't any frozen chunks.Recipe suggestions: Try using this homemade sauce for any of our pizza recipes that call for red sauce, like our Prosciutto & Arugula Pizza or Chorizo Sweet Potato Fry Pizza!
